Key findings
Honeywell completed the spin-off of Honeywell Aerospace on Jun 29, 2026 and now operates as Honeywell Technologies, a pure-play automation company with more than 50,000 employees whose AI strategy centers on Forge, the software layer it calls its intelligence layer.
Vimal Kapur said on Jul 23, 2026 that all software Honeywell sells on Forge is AI-based and that its recurring revenue would rise from about $900 million to a little over $1 billion in 2026; on Oct 22, 2026 he said it was coming close to $1 billion, growing about 12% to 13% this year.
CFO Mike Stepniak said on Oct 22, 2026 that all Honeywell teams are trained or being trained on, and have access to, the AI models the company uses, listing AI adoption among the self-help levers meant to keep operating costs flat while sales grow mid to high single digits; Honeywell has not said how many employees use those models or what AI has saved the company.
Honeywell launched Forge Cognition with NVIDIA and Dell Technologies on Oct 14, 2026, an agentic AI and digital twin platform piloted at NVIDIA's Voyager campus, Vanderbilt University and Honeywell's own campuses in Bangalore and Richardson, Texas.
Honeywell adopted a Responsible AI Governance Framework in 2024, moved board oversight of responsible AI to its Corporate Governance and Responsibility Committee in 2025, and runs an AI Claims approval system that checks its marketing claims about AI (Apr 2026 proxy statement).
Where Honeywell sits
- Stage
- Experimenting
Honeywell has reported no business return it credits to AI, for any use case or for the company as a whole: the roughly $1 billion of Forge software recurring revenue that Vimal Kapur calls all AI-based (Oct 2026) is revenue from selling software to customers, not a return on Honeywell's own use of AI; CFO Mike Stepniak listed AI adoption with shared services and a lighter headquarters as levers to hold operating costs flat, without separating AI's share (Oct 2026); and the closest internal figure, an 80% drop in inbound IT help desk tickets after a Moveworks AI assistant (Fortune, Aug 2024), predates the spin-offs and carries no cost or headcount figure. Honeywell has not reported a company-wide AI rollout with a user count either: Stepniak said all teams are trained or being trained on, and have access to, its AI models without giving a number, and the 2024 counts, 5,300 employees with access to Microsoft 365 Copilot and more than 4,500 engineers using GitHub Copilot, covered single tools at the pre-spin company. Honeywell is therefore at Experimenting, although AI runs in production in its Forge, Experion and TrackWise products; one return it credits to AI, or a stated count of employees using its AI tools under Chief Digital Officer Peter Kropik, who leads the AI Center of Expertise, would move it to Piloting.
How the stages are defined - Ownership

How they deploy
AI sold through the installed base
Honeywell's strategy is to lead the industrial move from automation to autonomy by adding AI to the control systems customers already run, connecting them through Forge and selling software and services on top. Vimal Kapur said on Jul 23, 2026 that all software Honeywell sells on Forge is AI-based and that Forge recurring revenue is a direct measure of Honeywell's AI progress, because its AI offerings are otherwise wrapped up in other products. Vimal Kapur said in Jan 2026 that Honeywell is changing its business model toward more recurring revenue, and told T. Rowe Price in Aug 2026 that AI, which he expected to reshape automation customers, was one factor behind the decision to separate the company.
Partners for models and compute
Honeywell builds Forge and its applications itself and takes models and compute from partners. Honeywell signed with Google Cloud in Oct 2024 to build industrial AI agents on Gemini and Vertex AI, and launched Forge Cognition in Oct 2026 on NVIDIA models and GPUs with Dell Technologies infrastructure. CTO Suresh Venkatarayalu leads Honeywell's ecosystem partnerships across AI platforms, cloud hyperscalers and edge computing, according to his company biography, and said in Oct 2026 that Honeywell hand-picks and fine-tunes open-source models, partly so customers keep control of their data and models.
Domain and physics models next to AI
Honeywell says Forge combines deterministic models with real operating constraints instead of relying on a generic AI model. Forge Plant Cognition, launched in Oct 2026, pairs AI agents with Honeywell UOP process expertise, trusted calculations and physics-based models, and CTO Suresh Venkatarayalu said in Oct 2026 that physical AI needs to understand how systems operate and interact, which a powerful model alone does not provide.
Autonomy with operator approval
Honeywell says its AI learns from customer operations, proposes improvements and acts only with the customer's approval. Forge Cognition runs in manual, semi-autonomous or autonomous modes, with operators setting the level of control and able to override it at any time (Oct 2026), and Honeywell had not opened the autonomous mode at launch, according to Fortune. Vimal Kapur said in Jan 2026 that Honeywell had moved to an agentic way of working on its customer base and hoped to show Forge agents managing operations, maintenance and energy at its Jun 2026 Investor Day.
AI for Honeywell's own productivity
Honeywell's Apr 2026 proxy statement says the company is implementing AI internally to raise employee productivity while deploying it across its offerings. Chief Digital Officer Peter Kropik leads an AI Center of Expertise meant to embed intelligent automation across global operations, and Accelerator 3.0, the latest version of Honeywell's operating system, strengthens the integration of AI and digital tools. CFO Mike Stepniak listed AI adoption with a lighter headquarters, shared services and engineering and supply chain productivity as Honeywell's self-help levers (Oct 2026).
- Deployment model
- Honeywell runs customer AI and internal AI in separate organizations. Customer AI is built by Honeywell Connected Enterprise, the software unit led by CTO Suresh Venkatarayalu that runs software product management and engineering, the company's labs and Forge, and is sold through the Building Automation, Process Automation and Technology, and Industrial Automation segments. Internal AI sits with Peter Kropik's combined IT and Enterprise Transformation team, which includes the AI Center of Expertise, the Accelerator operating system and the move to functional shared services. A Data & AI Steering Committee of senior leaders directs the Responsible AI Governance Framework that every Honeywell business and function uses to review AI systems (2026 Impact Report; Apr 2026 proxy statement).
- Model providers
- Honeywell's Forge Cognition and Forge Plant Cognition run agents on NVIDIA Nemotron open models, use NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for digital twins, NVIDIA Cosmos models with the Metropolis VSS Blueprint for vision agents and, in Plant Cognition, the NVIDIA PhysicsNeMo framework for physics AI models (Oct 2026). CTO Suresh Venkatarayalu said at Fortune's AIQ Summit on Oct 1, 2026 that Honeywell hand-picks and fine-tunes open-source models and works with NVIDIA's Nemotron team, and that customers demand accuracy near 99.9999% where frontier models may reach 85%. Honeywell's Oct 2024 partnership with Google Cloud uses Gemini on Vertex AI and Vertex AI Search for industrial agents and planned to explore Gemini Nano on edge devices. Experion Operations Assistant uses language models over site-specific plant data; Honeywell has not named those models, nor the models its employees use internally.
- Data and infrastructure
- Dell Technologies supplies the infrastructure under Honeywell's Forge Cognition through the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA, including PowerEdge XE servers and the Dell AI Data Platform, and the platform runs on NVIDIA RTX PRO GPUs with far-edge deployments on NVIDIA DGX Spark (Oct 2026); Fortune reported that Dell supplies the on-site servers that run it. Suresh Venkatarayalu said in Oct 2026 that whether Honeywell's AI runs at the edge, on premises or in the cloud depends on latency, the cost of moving data and sovereignty. Honeywell agreed with Microsoft in Oct 2020 to build Forge applications on the Microsoft Azure cloud, and its Google Cloud agents are built on Vertex AI. Forge connected more than 32,000 customers, 324,000 sites and about 6.4 million assets as of Mar 2026. Honeywell's 2025 Form 10-K says its ability to develop AI depends on third-party providers of hardware and AI models whose quality, availability and cost it cannot control.

Economics & controls
Spend and ROI
Technology and R&D spending
Honeywell does not publish an IT, digital or AI budget. Honeywell Technologies reported research and development expense of $825 million in the first nine months of 2026, including $239 million in the third quarter, down from $268 million a year earlier (Q3 2026 Form 10-Q). Honeywell holds more than 25,000 patents and says it employs more than 7,000 engineers.
What AI itself costs
Honeywell has not disclosed what it spends on AI models, compute or the NVIDIA and Dell infrastructure behind Forge Cognition. Honeywell's 2025 Form 10-K warns that it cannot control the quality, availability or cost of the hardware and AI models it buys from third parties.
Reported ROI
Honeywell has reported no business return credited to AI, either for its own operations or for a single use case, and has published no saving or cost figure from internal AI. The closest internal figure on record is an 80% drop in inbound IT help desk tickets after Honeywell deployed a Moveworks AI assistant, which Fortune reported in Aug 2024, before the spin-offs, with no cost or headcount figure; Honeywell has not said whether the tool is still in use. The AI figure Honeywell gives investors is product revenue: Vimal Kapur said on Jul 23, 2026 that all software Honeywell sells on Forge is AI-based, that its annual recurring revenue would rise from about $900 million to a little over $1 billion in 2026, and that recurring revenue growth is a direct measure of Honeywell's progress, since its AI offerings are wrapped up in other products; on Oct 22, 2026 he said it was coming close to $1 billion, with growth of about 12% to 13% in 2026 against a 15% aspiration. Honeywell has not said how much of that revenue comes from generative or agentic AI. The benefits Honeywell cites in product announcements, such as more than $60 million a year estimated for Dangote's refinery and up to 90% fewer unnecessary alerts at NVIDIA's Voyager building, accrue to customers.
Productivity and headcount
CFO Mike Stepniak said on Oct 22, 2026 that a lighter headquarters, cross-functional shared services, engineering and supply chain productivity and AI adoption are Honeywell's self-help levers, with the aim of keeping operating costs flat while sales grow mid to high single digits; Honeywell has not separated AI's share. Honeywell employed about 101,000 people at Dec 31, 2025, after the Solstice spin-off but before the Aerospace spin-off and the 2026 sales of its Warehouse and Workflow Solutions and Productivity Solutions and Services businesses, and Honeywell Technologies has more than 50,000 employees. Vimal Kapur said on Oct 22, 2026 that Honeywell expects to eliminate the remaining stranded costs from the separations by the end of 2026.
2029 targets
Honeywell Technologies told investors on Jun 11, 2026 that it expects 4% to 6% organic growth, more than 60 basis points of margin expansion a year and more than 10% annual earnings growth through 2029, and Vimal Kapur said in Jul 2026 that its $12 earnings-per-share target for 2029 assumes no acquisitions. Kapur said in Jan 2026 that Honeywell has been changing its business model toward more recurring revenue and planned to use stronger links to Forge to drive software and services growth.
Governance and risk
Responsible AI framework
Honeywell adopted a Responsible AI Governance Framework in 2024 with a Responsible AI Policy and principles covering accountability, safety and security, validity and reliability, fairness, privacy and intellectual property, transparency and sustainability. Every Honeywell business and function uses the framework's standards and forms to review AI systems and use cases, under the direction of a Data & AI Steering Committee of senior leaders, and the framework includes a bias standard (Apr 2026 proxy statement; 2026 Impact Report).
Board oversight
Honeywell's board first gave its Audit Committee oversight of data use and compliance under AI regulations, then in 2025 gave the Corporate Governance and Responsibility Committee oversight of responsible AI governance. Honeywell's Apr 2026 proxy statement says the committee regularly reviews the company's AI and generative AI tools and use cases against its goals and AI laws, and that most shareowners Honeywell spoke with supported its AI disclosure and framework.
AI claims review
Honeywell runs an AI Claims approval system so that marketing claims about its use of AI are accurate and verifiable, with a shared repository of valid AI claims (Apr 2026 proxy statement). Honeywell's Code of Business Conduct covers responsible AI, and all eligible employees complete Code training and certification (2026 Impact Report).
Human approval in products
Honeywell says its AI proposes improvements and acts only with the customer's approval, and Forge Cognition lets operators choose manual, semi-autonomous or autonomous modes and override the system at any time (Oct 2026). Honeywell had not opened Forge Cognition's autonomous mode at launch, and CTO Suresh Venkatarayalu told Fortune in Oct 2026 that the current mode may run for two to three years before customers decide to switch. Honeywell created an online Trust Center in 2024 to set out its privacy, security and responsible AI practices.
Disclosed risks and regulation
Honeywell's 2025 Form 10-K lists risks from generative and agentic AI, including flawed outputs, bias and intellectual property claims, reliance on safeguards built by third-party model developers, AI-enabled cyberattacks and AI-related data leaks. The 10-K names the EU AI Act, the Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act and the California AI Transparency Act among rules that add transparency, monitoring and human-oversight duties.

Quick answers
- How does Honeywell deploy AI?
- Honeywell deploys AI mainly through Forge, the in-house software layer it sells to building, plant and industrial customers, adding agents built on NVIDIA models and Dell infrastructure and working with Google Cloud on Gemini-based agents. Inside Honeywell, CFO Mike Stepniak said in Oct 2026 that all teams are trained or being trained on the company's AI models, and Chief Digital Officer Peter Kropik leads an AI Center of Expertise. Honeywell has reported no return it credits to AI and no count of employees using its AI tools.
- What does Honeywell use AI for?
- Honeywell's AI use cases are mostly products it sells: Forge applications, Experion Operations Assistant, the TrackWise Digital AI Processing Agent and AI-enabled OT cybersecurity run in production, while Forge Cognition, Forge Plant Cognition and Experion Cognition are in pilots or early launches. Inside Honeywell, all teams are being trained on the company's AI models and Forge runs at its own facilities. Honeywell has reported no business return credited to AI for any single use case or for its own operations; the AI figure it gives investors is Forge software recurring revenue, close to $1 billion in 2026, which Vimal Kapur calls all AI-based.
- Who leads AI at Honeywell?
- AI at Honeywell is led by Suresh Venkatarayalu (SVP, Chief Technology Officer and President, Honeywell Connected Enterprise); Peter Kropik (SVP, Enterprise Transformation and Chief Digital Officer). Ownership of AI on the org chart: CTO Suresh Venkatarayalu sets AI strategy; CDO Peter Kropik runs the AI Center of Expertise.
- What AI platform does Honeywell use?
- Forge, the software layer Honeywell built and sells, connected more than 324,000 customer sites in Mar 2026 and gained Forge Cognition, an agentic AI and digital twin platform, in Oct 2026.
- Which AI models does Honeywell use?
- NVIDIA Nemotron, Omniverse and Cosmos power Forge Cognition (Oct 2026), Honeywell fine-tunes hand-picked open-source models (Oct 2026), and Honeywell agreed with Google Cloud in Oct 2024 to build industrial agents on Gemini, next to its own deterministic and physics-based models.
- How many Honeywell employees use AI?
- CFO Mike Stepniak said on Oct 22, 2026 that all Honeywell teams are trained or being trained on, and have access to, the AI models the company uses; Honeywell has published no company-wide usage count.
- How far has AI spread at Honeywell?
- Honeywell has reported no business return it credits to AI, for any use case or for the company as a whole: the roughly $1 billion of Forge software recurring revenue that Vimal Kapur calls all AI-based (Oct 2026) is revenue from selling software to customers, not a return on Honeywell's own use of AI; CFO Mike Stepniak listed AI adoption with shared services and a lighter headquarters as levers to hold operating costs flat, without separating AI's share (Oct 2026); and the closest internal figure, an 80% drop in inbound IT help desk tickets after a Moveworks AI assistant (Fortune, Aug 2024), predates the spin-offs and carries no cost or headcount figure.
